Our history
SJV Maurel Frères is a wine and spirits distribution company founded by brothers Valentin and Jules Maurel.
Their shared passion for the world of wine is in their DNA. They are the ninth generation of a family of winegrowers, dating back to 1802 when they purchased Château d’Astros, an estate in the heart of Provence.
Jules Maurel
Jules Maurel, the youngest of the siblings, has been drawn to the culinary world since his early childhood. At the age of 12, he decided he wanted to become a chef. He began his training at La Fenière, a Michelin-starred restaurant that specialises in gluten-free and lactose-free cuisine.
Throughout his culinary training, Jules developed a keen palate and became increasingly passionate about food and wine pairings. He therefore decided to undertake wine training (the prestigious WSET 2 and 3, which he passed with honours). An entrepreneur like his brother, he began working as an independent agent for vineyards. It was therefore only natural that in 2023, he joined forces with his brother to create SJV Maurel Frères.
Valentin Maurel
Valentin Maurel, the eldest, has long had the soul of an entrepreneur and traveller. In 2010, he left for Hong Kong to do an apprenticeship lasting a few months and ultimately decided to settle there permanently.
He recognised the potential of the Asian market in the wine sector, particularly for rosé wines. He therefore set up his own wine and spirits distribution company, Vines & Terroirs, which now represents more than 60 European vineyards.
